The cartoonist's role is not so much to instruct his audience, or illuminate the Truth, as it is to simply take an honest stand and present it vehemently enough so that it must be confronted. This constitutes the power of the cartoon to stimulate discussion and debate. And this is the cartoon's positive function in society-Bill Watterson

I came here from TOC and found the articles and opinions posted on the site to be a breath a fresh air compared to traditional forms of media in Singapore. Some food for thought, though: I'm not sure if likening a struggle between conservative and liberal elements in society to a mere 'catfight' does much to "stimulate discussion and debate", since it only replicates mainstream discourse.
